Director, Independent People Live-in Care
Paul Austin is Director of Independent People Live-in Care and a health and social care leader with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy and an MSc in Healthcare Management. He is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP). His background combines NHS clinical practice, healthcare service improvement and more than 15 years of leadership in homecare.
Paul began his healthcare career as an NHS physiotherapist, working across medical specialties with responsibilities for patient assessment, rehabilitation and discharge planning. His particular interest in neurology informs his focus on mobility, rehabilitation and helping people retain independence in everyday life.
He subsequently served as Obstetrics and Gynaecology Service Manager at Basildon University Hospital and Head of Improvement at Southeast Essex Primary Care Trust. These roles involved service planning and redesigning acute and community care pathways, including services for older adults and people needing palliative care.
Since 2011, Paul has led Independent People Homecare and Ivy Palmer Live-in Care. He has previously worked as a Registered Manager and is Independent People’s CQC Nominated Individual, with responsibility for governance, safeguarding, compliance and care quality.
His work focuses on helping people make informed choices about live-in care, supporting safe transitions from hospital to home, and keeping independence and individual preferences at the centre of care. He contributes practical guidance on arranging care at home, rehabilitation and the needs of older adults and people with complex conditions.
